Caribbean Cinnamon French Toast

Jump to Recipe

Growing up as a Haitian American kid, I used to make and eat french toast at breakfast all the time. It is such an easy breakfast to make and doesn’t require too many ingredients. However, my favorite french toast to eat is my Caribbean cinnamon french toast. My french toast has cinnamon, nutmeg, agave, and Haitian vanilla.

Why Haitian Vanilla?

Let’s talk about Haitian vanilla, and why it’s hands down the best vanilla ever. First off, Haitian vanilla smells amazing. It also adds a nice spice and flavor to your food. Haitian vanilla has a hint of alcohol, but I promise you wouldn’t mind it at all. A little goes a long way. Haitian vanilla tastes great in porridge, oatmeal, smoothies, cakes, and of course my Caribbean cinnamon french toast.

Haitian vanilla is very hard to find, there are a few vendors on Amazon, but my mother typically gets it from Haiti or at Haitian markets in Brooklyn. However, if it’s hard to find Jamaican vanilla is just as good, and you can find it in most supermarkets. I actually use both. I do not use American vanilla at all. It’s either Haitian or Jamaican vanilla. Haitian vanilla or Jamaican vanilla compliments cinnamon, and nutmeg so well. It is a must when making my french toast.

For my french toast, I used whole wheat bread. However, any bread of your choice will work well. However, whole wheat bread has fiber and is very filling.

In addition, I love to eat french toast with blueberries, strawberries, banana, pecans, and whip cream!
